News Reports Ride To The Wall - 2009 John Mair ex 1RHF and member of the Dunedin Harley Davidson Chapter organised a ride on top of the range Harley's supplied by Edinburgh Harley Davidson for two serving soldiers to take part in a mass ride to the National Arboretum, from Glencorse on Friday the 9th of Oct in aid of the Linburn Blind Home (they also support Erskine Hospital). John's story is below: John Mair BEM - ex 1RHF Dunedin Chapter, Scotland, Harley Owners Group decided to take two serving soldiers with us to the National Arboretum in Lichfield on an event called Ride To The Wall 2009. I volunteered to contact my old Regiment using Sandy Leishman as a go between. The RSM chose Sgt Jim Thompson and CSgt Jock McGhee as they were both bikers with licences. CSgt Jock McGhee and Sgt Jim Thompson - 2Scots Edinburgh Harley Davidson loaned them each a brand new bike, insurance and delivery to Glencorse in order for them to get used to the bikes. The RSM arranged for the Chapter members who were leaving from the Edinburgh area to RV at Glencorse where we had a photo shoot/press call. We were (23 bikes) met at the Guardroom and piped down to the square and met the TARA where we were all lined up. When it was time to leave we were again piped out to "The Black Bear." The look on the Jocks' faces was one of mystique and wonder! John Mair's Ultra Classic Glide We left the barracks in convoy with our 2 guests and met up with 12 more bikes at Abington before heading South for a big party. The Chapter also supported the cost of the Hotel for 2 nights for the boys. Both Jim and Jock really enjoyed the run down and their first night. The next day we left at 0845hrs to meet the other 5,000 bikers at Drayton Park before heading to the main event at the National Arboretum. Our Memorial wreath We were paying tribute to fallen Servicemen and Women since the Second World War. It was a dignified ceremony with the attendance of the Commander 4 Div, Maj General L Kirkland CBE who addressed us all, he arrived from Aldershot on his Harley Davidson... well cool. Spitfire Flypast We also had an amazing triple fly past of a Spitfire. We had time to search out all of RHF names on the walls, I have photos of them with the boy's hopefully I can upload then for you all to see. We then returned to the Hotel for a moment or two of contemplation at the Bar before we headed downtown that evening returning for a wee soiree at the bar later. The wall at the National Arboretum On Sunday we headed back to God's country with a wet and cold run North, but it did not dampen Jim and Jock's enthusiasm, that happened on Monday when they handed back the bikes. A fantastic weekend for us and them - Haste ye back boys!!

The Defence Review of 1957 announced the abolition of conscription and a return to all regular forces of roughly pre-war size. Due to the many changes in the Army's structure which had evolved since 1939 this entailed a reduction of the Infantry, thirty regiments being amalgamated in pairs to form fifteen.
The RSF and HLI were one of the pairs selected for amalgamation and this took place at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh on 20th January 1959.
The new title adopted was The Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment).
This important milestone in the Regiment’s History was celebrated on Sunday 1st February 2009 with a service in Glasgow Cathedral conducted by the Reverend Doctor Lawrence Whitley MA BD PhD, Minister of Glasgow Cathedral followed by a march through the City to George Square.
Led by the Colour Party and Pipes and Drums of 2 SCOTS The Royal Highland Fusiliers, the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland and Veterans of the Regiment formed up by Branches and RHF Cadets and marched to Church starting within the Cathedral precincts. The Colours and Branch Standards were marched into the Cathedral with due ceremony.
After the Service the Parade reformed and marched through the City to George Square under the direction of Parade Commander RSM John Hamilton Rtd. marching behind the last stand of Royal Highland Fusiliers Colours, these colours were presented by HRH The Duke of York, our Royal Colonel on operations in Afghanistan, where the salute was taken by the Rt. Hon Councillor Bob Winter, Lord Provost, City of Glasgow and the Deputy Representative Colonel, Colonel N.T. Campbell, The Royal Highland Fusiliers.
The Parade then fell out in George Square after which there was a Civic Reception in the City Chambers.
