The Great War 1914-18
Lieutenant S. L. Honey HLI of Canada
For most conspicuous bravery at Bourlon Wood 1918. When his company commander and all other officers had become casualties, Lieutenant Honey took command and skilfully re-organised under severe fire. He continued the advance with great dash and gained the objective. Finding that his company was suffering casualties from enfilade machine gun fire he located the nest and single-handedly captured the guns and 10 prisoners. Later he repelled four enemy counter attacks and after dark again located alone an enemy post, and led a party which captured it and 3 guns. In the succeeding days of the battle he led his company with great skill, valour and self-sacrifice. He died of wounds received during the last day of the attack by his battalion.
