The RHF Veterans' Battlefield Tour part 2

Report from our Errant Chronicler travelling with the RHF Veterans’ Battlefield Tour:

Living up to my errantness, I got caught up in the archery competitions yesterday and forgot to send in my report! I may not be a latter-day Robin Hood, but you will be pleased to hear that I was able to miss a certain grey elephant!

The intrepid, travelling veterans polled up at the Sennelager Training Area – a place of memories, some better than others, for all troops stationed with the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) – so, just about everyone!

Sounding much more exciting in German, Truppenübungsplatz Senne; this military training area is under the control of British Forces based in Paderborn Garrison. It covers an area of 116 square kilometres (45 square miles) and was first used for military purposes towards the end of the 19th century.

The sign alone should be sufficient to jog a few memories; although, possibly not as long ago as the photographs from 1959!

Any unfortunate memories stirred among our fearless journeyers
were mitigated by a visit to the NATO Officers Mess!
