Can any one name the EX member of the RGT who won
three Purple Hearts,One Silver Cross with US
Marine Corps. There are two officers out there
who knew this man.[Instant Anger,Hugh Cameron]
can RHQ find this mans name, his father was a Maj
in the HLI.I know him as he was at the Depot with
me.He done his training.and tried to go through
MONS to become an officer in the Btn.Didnt happen
went to Canada, served 3 years then went to States
as a volunteer.I knew him very well and he would
have been an exelent officer in Btn.Unlike some
of the failures I had to serve under (BEEP BEEP)
AKA The road runner.

It will be a year on 1st and 2nd November that the regiment lost two great SNCO's, Charlie Johnston on the 1st and Eddy (Spud) Murphy on the 2nd.
I have fond memories of Charlie, the first two pics I took in 1980 when he was CSM HQ Coy (this would be his last job with the Bn before he was demobbed), he has borrowed my jacket in the first pic and in the second he is wearing my webbing? (don't ask):
This pic was taken when he was Sgt/CSgt Anti-
This pic of Eddy Murphy was also taken in 1974, Spud was in the Pioneer Pl at the time and is pictured with Jimmy Welsh (on the left), a great bloke of whom I also have fond memories:
A toast to the both of you -

Please disregard the Belfast 74 picture above, that would be Ian McInally in the centre, apologies for the error.... Thanks to Davie Howe, I will check with him first in future !

Ginge,
I have studied the photo you posted and I cant remember it being taken. I wonder how and where wee Ernie Vergoz is now. I was over in Scotland last week and visited RHQ. I was told that a reunion was being held at RHQ on the Sunday by Ex members from Ayrshire. Due to work commitments I had to return to NI on the Thursday so I missed out in a chance of meeting some of the oldies.
All the best for now.

So Sorry to hear that Charlie johnston died. I asked around even asked W Shaw if anyone knew where he was some time ago but no news.
I am confused however. I believe that he was B Coy CSM when I joined the Bn in 1971 In Singapore. so could not be Sgt/Csgt of the Anti Tank in 1974. Have I lost the plot??
B Coy Comdr was Maj Campbell Csgt was Peter Wallace, 5Pl Sgt was Davie Thompson, names to remember, Tucker Douglas,Frank Porch,Joe Frame (Coy Clerk), Am I stuck in a time warp, has my memory failed me as well as my leg's etc etc
If anyone can shed some light on this please feel free to comment
Regards
Tom

Bobby email on it's way!
Tom are correct, the wrong picture was posted it may look a bit like Charlie but is infact Frankie Johnston from the tank! Charlie left in 1980 and according to the obituary in last winters journal he was living in Edinburgh and had a bad stroke late 1981, he succumbed to a final stroke on 1 Nov 2004. I did try to have the wrong pictures removed but to no avail? hope this helps!

REF Auld Percy and our own remeberance parade night in Belize.
I remember some poor mashman canteen cowboy tried to throw us all out at shutting time when we had the pipes and drums playing and Adam B showed him the door in his own polite way.

Tom,
Joe Frame died a couple of years ago too (in 2000). He had a bevvy too far and the old ticker threw a wobbler (at the unripe old age of 57). We buried him beside the whisky bond outside Celtic Park so he would have approved.
