Lucky Pauline, was enjoying the delights of the Open Day in Glasgow’s Maryhill, with the other residents, in spite of the inclement weather! She participated in a free competition to win a Bugle and was delighted when her name was picked out!
The housing was built in the 1960s/1970s, on the site of Maryhill Barracks, built in 1872; and the home of The Highland Light Infantry (HLI) from 1920 to 1959, closing completely in 1960. Cube Housing Association who run the estate have recently refurbished some of the block, which were named after local heroes, many from the HLI, including several VC recipients – they have continued the tradition by adding photographs and stories of each hero!
The Museum and members of 52nd Lowland, 6th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (6 SCOTS) from nearby Walcheran Barracks were invited to participate in the annual fun-day. Brigadier Charlie Coull, Honorary Colonel of 6 SCOTS accepted a key on behalf of the Museum.
We hope that Bugle enjoys his new home – but, another Bugle can be won in our new exciting competition!
