Rose Gentle, mother of Fusilier Gordon Gentle, who was sadly killed during the Iraq War, will be awarded an honorary degree at the University of Glasgow on 30 November.
Gordon was only 19 years old, when he was killed by a roadside bomb, while serving with The Royal Highland Fusiliers
in Basra in 2004; and Rose thinks that he would be “laughing his head off” at the thought of her going to university.
Following Gordon’s death, Rose became an ardent campaigner against the government’s handling of the war – setting up Military Families Against the War and Justice for Gordon Gentle.
Rose has always supported the Royal Highland Fusiliers Museum and we were honoured that she chose the Museum for the award of the Elizabeth Cross, in recognition of Gordon’s sacrifice in Iraq. Many congratulations, Rose, from everyone at the Royal Highland Fusiliers Museum!
